COMMON CHORDS

 Educational Programs

COMMON CHORDS provides programs at every grade level to augment and enhance the impact of education curricula.  Here are a few examples of programs that we can offer--

Lower Elementary grades

"Folksongs Belong To Everyone" This is an interactive survey of our shared culture through the songs and stories we learn and pass along from generation to generation.

Upper Elementary and Middle School grades:

"Music That Matters " This is an overview of the music of history and the history of music from slave songs and spirituals to rap. It emphasizes cooperation, diversity, and history.

High school and beyond:

"Our Songs, Our Story" This can be customized to enhance learning about any era of American History.

Examples:

"Our Songs, Our Story: The Civil Rights Movement"

"Our Songs, Our Story: The Industrial Revolution"

"Our Songs, Our Story: The Great Wars"

"Our Songs, Our Story: The Great Migration"

Colleges and Universities such as the University of Michigan, Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant, MI), Manchester University (Manchester, IN), Wayne State University (Detroit, MI), University of Mississippi (Oxford, MS), Monroe County Community College, and many other institutions have discovered how music and stories can enhance the understanding of complex subjects such as migration, racial and cultural diversity, American History, Social Studies and the Humanities.
