Folksongs Belong To Everyone

This is an interactive experience of our shared culture through the songs and stories we learn and pass along from generation to generation. This is a presentation, designed primarily for grades Kindergarten through Second Grade, that includes stories, movement, rhythm and call and response.  Students will learn that we are all connected through our songs and stories.

Students will learn:

— a definition of folk song and folklore

— how folk songs and folklore travel from generation to generation,

and connect us as a culture

— the importance of keeping our folksongs and folklore alive

— to participate on a variety of examples of our folk songs, folklore and stories

— that they already have learned many of our songs, stories and folklore traditions

— that our folk songs were performed on a variety of musical  instruments

— about the concept of simple harmony
